FAQ

Vecima — frequently asked questions

What is a vCMTS?

A virtual CMTS runs the cable modem termination system as software on standard servers instead of a dedicated chassis. Vecima’s Entra vCMTS supports DOCSIS 3.1 and DOCSIS 4.0 and works with distributed-access nodes such as Remote PHY.

What is the difference between Remote PHY and Remote MACPHY?

With Remote PHY the physical layer moves into the node while the MAC layer stays in the headend or data center (for example in a vCMTS). With Remote MACPHY both the MAC and PHY layers move into the node.

Can one platform support both cable and fiber?

Vecima’s Entra portfolio covers DOCSIS cable access and PON fiber access, including 10G symmetrical PON with a path to 50G, so operators can plan both on one roadmap.
